CT-assisted assessment for left atrial appendage thrombus in patients presenting to the Emergency Department with new-onset atrial fibrillation
Project Description: Patient who present to the ED with chief complaint related to new-onset atrial fibrillation/flutter will undergo a CT scan of the chest to rule-out a left atrial appendage thrombus if they present during approved hours (CT exam will be read between 7am and 5pm Monday to Friday, and once at 8am on Saturday and Sunday). If no clot is present, the new algorithm created for the ED recommends to perform cardioversion to attempt rhythm control. If successful, patients will be discharged with close cardiology follow-up. If unsuccessful, they will be admitted as per usual practice.
