ERAS for Gyn Oncology
Project Description: The enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) approach was developed as a multimodal and standardized approach to perioperative care, directed at optimizing the patient experience and improving surgical outcomes. Key components of ERAS include comprehensive patient education including patient goals and expectations around surgery, multimodal pain control including nonopioid analgesic agents and regional anesthesia to reduce opioid use, and quick resumption of a normal diet and activity. For women undergoing gynecologic surgery, an ERAS approach has uniformly been found to improve surgical outcomes including decreased length of stay, decreased costs, and patient satisfaction consistent across multiple studies. An ERAS protocol has been formulated and will be implemented and studied in gynecologic oncology patients at UF Health Gainesville.
